  • Dr. Samaan obtained the degrees of B.Sc. and Msc. in Architectural Engineering from Mansoura University, Egypt, in 2008 and 2013 respectively.
  • During his masters studies, he worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Mansoura University, and he focused in his thesis on the optimization of energy-efficient educational spaces in Egyptian universities using building performance simulation tools.
  • He was able to master such tools through conducting two three-month research projects at the Technical University of Dresden and the Florida International University in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
  • In addition, Mina led the team who won the first-place prize at the Taking Leave International Competition that was organized by the British University of Egypt in April 2012 addressing the challenges of urban planning across Egypt.
  • In November 2013, he started his doctoral studies in developmental Science at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, through a three-year scholarship granted by the Excellence Center for Sustainable Water Management in Developing Countries (EXCEED-SWINDON), which is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He defended his PhD thesis in August 2017, tracing the process and mechanisms through which conflict and cooperation have been generated among the Nile riparian states over large-scale developmental schemes along the past one and half centuries.
  • Mina has participated in several international conferences and workshops (e.g. MPSA 2016, SWWW 2016, ISA 2017, and Water Diplomacy 2017 by SwedAlex). He published two articles in the Blue Series of the Institute of Social Sciences at TU-Braunschweig and wrote a chapter in the EXCEED-I five-year closing book.
  • Mina’s Doctoral dissertation was published in a book, under the title, The Nile Development Game: Tug-of-war or Benefits for all?” with Springer Nature, New York. Since September 2018, Dr. Samaan has been working as a lecturer at Mansoura University, and he has been the Egyptian PI of two DAAD-projects with TU-berlin and HCU in sustainable built-environment and smart cities respectively.
  • Mina also obtained the medals of honor from the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, Mansoura University, and the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
