A senior researcher at the Habitat. The workshop for urban informalities monitored by Dr. Hassan El Mouelhi. focuses on culture and informal urban settlements, residents’ socio-cultural aspects, patterns of use in urban space, power relations in an informal urban context. the participants were asked to point out the urban problems for Delta city.
The First phase: Open Discussions:
The workshop focused on the reasons of informal settlements in Egypt and there was an open discussion with students to determine the main causes that led to informality in Egypt’s urban fabric , especially in the study area Meit Khamis .
The participants named many reasons such as, lack of awareness, non- affordable housing, greedy investments by stakeholders and vulnerability of laws.
The Second Phase: Scoping on the study area:
After the previous discussion, the attendees were asked to work in groups to mention the problems associated to the case study, using papers and color-pens. 10-15 minutes passed, then students were able to formalize a comprehensive understanding of the problem of this informal settlements which was discussed in an open talk between the participants & the workshop coordinator.

The Third phase: assessment of the indicators:
The guest introduce a brief definition and reminder of SDGs – Sustainable Development Goals- with the vision of Egypt 2030.Then the students were asked a task to develop a better comprehensive of SDGs.
In this phase of the workshop, they tried to assess the indicators of informal settlements, using SDGs measuring chart on a scale 1- 5 through 15-20 minutes

After an open discussion between attendees & the guest, they were able to define the pros and cons of this area and format a great idea of how to approach such areas. Giving them a final task to define the potentials of this area. There were variable questions to be asked, who is in the charge? Who has the influence on these areas? Students were given a table to categorize public, stake holders, government according to the level of interests and influence in these issues.
