Delta Kassel Experts Workshop
Within the framework of the German-Egyptian Progress Partnership Program Line 1: University Partnerships 2021- 2022, the Department of Urban Renewal and Planning Theory of the University of Kassel in cooperation with the Department of Engineering - Architecture - ESU Lab- Urban City Unit of Mansoura University in Egypt has initiated the project Delta- Kassel - URRM - Urban Resilience and Risk Management: Understanding Egypt’s Delta Region. The project runs from January 2021 to the end of 2022 and is concerned with deepening cooperation with Mansoura and Kafrelshiekh Universities in Egypt through the organization and implementation of various forms of scientific and student exchange.
Thematically, the project deals with the issue of Urban Resilience in the Nile Delta, especially in the city of Burg Al-Burullus and its surroundings as one of the Egyptian metropolitan areas facing several challenges regarding the development of its socio-urban and ecological environment. Therefore, the objectives of the project are to:
- Study these challenges in relation to the national as well as international discourses.
- Explore the potentials of applying resilience approaches and resilience tools to the study case.
Workshop Description
The “Deltas in the face of Change: Global Challenges and Resilience
Strategies” workshop is an experts’ workshop, aiming to focus on
the global challenges that not only faces deltas around the world,
but also the global challenges that face our world from an urban
and environmental perspectives. Besides, it will try to negotiate
the resilience strategies that are adopted to face such challenges.
It is part of a DAAD collaboration project between Kassel,
Mansoura and Kafrelshiekh (Egypt) Universities under the title
“Delta-Kassel – URRM – Urban Resilience and Risk Management:
Understanding Egypt’s Delta Region”. In this regard, an expert
workshop is organized in form of a two-days block, 05.12 and
06.12.
Within the expert workshop, partner-universities members along
with external experts from the Global South and Global North
will focus on the challenges facing the world from an urban and
Environmental perspective. Besides, they will focus on climate
change challenges, showing on hands practice and examples from
various parts of the world. While in the second day, Egyptian
experts will present in-depth analysis for the Nile Delta in Egypt
and its history and Challenges.
